The worldwide audience of Miss Universe 2017 are in for a new twist in this year’s pageant. IMG Universe LLP decided to change it up a bit by changing the way the Top 15 will be chosen this year. Instead of choosing the 15 candidates with the highest preliminary scores, they are dividing the semi-finalists by continents.
4 from the Americas (North America/Central America/South America/Caribbean)
4 from Asia/Africa
4 from Europe
4 Wild Cards (3 chosen by the preliminary judges/IMG and 1 by the fan vote)
After that, there will be Top 10, Top 5 and Top 3 selections continue as in previous years.
Many pageant fans voiced their dislike with this new format. Many questions the fairness and methodology on how the actual preliminary scores will be taken into account.
